I was working with a friendly ladybug at a club event when she discovered that I am a biology major. She then got a confused look on her face and said, "So what do you think about Evolution?" At first I was confused. Was she talking about my class? She then cleared it up by saying, "No, I thought you were religious." I then said, "Oh yes, I believe in Evolution but I also believe that God created this world." I was then supported with an excited "woo-hoo" from a friendly monkey. The ladybug seemed happy that I thought that way. We then continued to have a very nice philosophical discussion.
As I returned to go about my day, I thought of this conversation. I suppose you could say that science is how I see God's work. Science explains the amazing things that God has made and what could be better than that? I know a lot of people believe scientific people to be cold and analytical, but the truth is that we are a little bit. We enjoy analyzing things. To look at the world and try to discover as much as you can about it is fun. I can tell you why I like to eat chocolate, why people become sad when it rains, and why I love to be hugged and touched. There are many mysterious things about this world and I love to figure them out. As to the cold part, we only appear cold to those outside. The people who I enjoy talking with who are very like minded as me can say things that speak true wisdom and insight, but to others it might seem mean and cruel.
I think that God is a scientist, and I can clearly picture him as a doctor. Jesus would walk into a hospital, put on his white coat, and get to work. "Dr. Christ, you're needed in OR 3." Someone would say over the intercom. He would then come into the room to see me, a little Bumble Bee in scrubs and getting ready for a surgery. He'd smile at me and say, "What's going on Doc?"
I may be a little Bumble Bee, but I love science and I feel that God likes it too. Why wouldn't he? He did create it and so I think he'd like to see people figure it out. It's like when you make a puzzle and give it to one of your friends to figure it out. It's fun because you like to see how clever your friends are, how clever you are, and how much your friends like you. If your friend doesn't like you, then they wouldn't spend the time to attempt to figure it out, but if they like you, and if they like you a lot they will dedicate a lot of their time to figure it out. This is how I view science, but then I'm just a little Bumble Bee.
